IPs for our server which hosts the FTP:

OUTSIDE Static IP through the Firewall: 192.251.181.104 (This is only used by ALMA to grab the file from our FTP VM server)

INSIDE Static IP of the VM server: 10.1.1.104

Port: 21

ALMA SETUP

The ALMA FTP setup is already done and you can find it here:

Click on the Gear > General tab > Under External Systems _ S/FTP definitions > [...] > Edit

NOTE!!!!!: ALMA can only use an FTP Server that is set to plain FTP.


HOW TO CREATE THE STUDENT RECORD XML FILE

Open SMSS > Open File > Navigate here: OneDrive Sharepoint - Spartanburg Methodist College\mySMC - IT Files\ALMA ExLibris library system

1a. Open the sql file

1b. Make sure the semester Term is correct. It's set to the current semester.

2. Click Execute

3. Click on the newly created link for the XML file

Click on the new created XML tab

Click on the Save icon

Now you have the XML file. You will need to .zip it

Right click on the XML file and Send to Compressed

Move that file to downloads so it's easy for the FTP Firezilla to see it.



UPLOAD THE XML FILE TO OUR FTP SERVER

We have a local FTP server that ALMA looks to for the student/faculty XML file.

FTP-for-ALMA-ExLibris.smcsc.edu

Use Filezilla to connect to that server:

Host: 10.1.1.104

Username: almaimport

Password: ImportAlma1!

Port: 21

It will automatically go to the folder you need to use to place the .zip file.

Make sure to upload the .xml file in a .zip file.

ALMA looks for .zip files only. It will upload all the .xml files within that .zip.


SCHEDULED

The ALMA system is already set to pick up the latest .zip file every MONDAY AT 2AM.


CHECK FOR ERRORS

Go back to ALMA home page

Click Admin > Manage Jobs and Sets - Monitor Jobs > History tab

Look for import errors. If any errors contact our Pascal support above to help figure them out.


MANUALLY RUN THE JOB

If you want to change that or run the job manually:

Login to the ALMA system:

Click on the settings gear > General menu on the left > External Systems - Integration Profiles > Student Information System (SIS) > Actions tab

"Run" button under SYNCHRONIZE .

"Schedule" drop-down under SYNCHRONIZE.

Off Campus Access

1. To access individual Online Research Databases or e-Book Collections, you'll be prompted to enter your SMC username and password.  This is the same username and password you use to access SMC email or to login to computers at SMC.  For the username you only need to enter the first part of the email address (example: smithjd19). 

 

2. For any electronic resources listed within the ONE SEARCH, you'll be prompted to enter your full SMC email address and password.

We also include the following information on the login screen they get before being taken to any of the resources:

 

This is the same username and password you use to log in to the student portal and campus computers.

  • Username = Last name, First initial, middle initial, two-digit year of entry to SMC, e.g. smithjd15.
  • Password = hashtag symbol (#), capitalized first name initial, capitalized last name initial, 2 digits for the DAY you were born, last 4 digits of your social, e.g. #JD026789
