How to Use the Accessibility Checker in Brightspace
Brightspace has an Accessibility Checker tool built in that will help determine if the content you’ve entered into a textbox is going to be accessible. In Brightspace, anywhere you can access the HTML Editor, the Accessibility Icon will appear.
The Accessibility Checker works when instructors:
- build pages of content using the HTML Web Page tool
- write descriptions in modules
- write an announcement
- write out instructions for an assignment, discussion forum, or quiz
Step 1 – Find the course element you want to test. Press the dropdown arrow and select Edit HTML to open the edit window.
Step 2 – At the bottom of the window, click the Check Accessibility icon at the bottom.
Step 3 – The checker indicates if there are no issues, or offers suggestions to fix identified accessibility issues. For example, if an instructor adds a graphic image without adding any written alt text, it will flag that.
