How to Apply Course Templates to Sandboxes
These instructions are for D2L Brightspace administrators only.
Follow these steps to create sandboxes or developmental courses only. Credit courses are automatically created by CAMS to D2L Brightspace. Once credit courses are created, you cannot easily change the template to which it's been assigned.
Create the Sandbox
1. From the Admin Tools menu, click Course Management.
2. Click Create a New Course Offering or Template.
3. Select Create a new course offering based on an existing template. Select the template you want to use from the drop-down list:
- SMC All Courses = 16-week, 8-week, or 4-week in-person, online, LROC, or hybrid courses (this is the default for all courses regardless of the modality)
- SMC Online Residential = 16-week, 8-week, or 4-week courses specifically requested by faculty
- SMC Online Template = 8-week online courses in the SMC Online program
- SMC Online Dev Shell Template = used for Course Design Institute for SMC Online courses
4. Click Next.
5. Follow the appropriate name mechanisms and choose Sandboxes for the semester.
6. Click Next.
7. Verify information. Click Create.
8. Click Go to to go to the course.
9. Under Course Tools > Classlist to enroll the instructor as an instructor in the course.
10. Click the Add a Participant button and click Add Existing Users.
11. Under Add Existing Users, search for the instructor
12. Under Enrollment Options, select all roles to Instructor and press Set All Roles. Select Send Enrollment Email.
13. In the table, select the instructor’s name. Press Enroll Selected Users.
The instructor will be notified by email that their sandbox/dev course is ready. Make sure to mark the course as inactive under Course Management.
Applying the Course Template
To apply the SMC Online template, go to Course Tools > Course Admin > Import/Export/Copy Components > select Copy Components from Parent Template.
To allow instructors access to the HTML file templates, you need to change the Content settings.
1. Go to Content and press Settings at the top of the page.
2. Under the Template Path option under Content Authoring, press the Change Path button.
3. Click on Shared Files.
4. Under HTML-Template-Library, select the folder HTML-Template-SMC-Online (for SMC Online) or HTML-Template-SMC (for "residential" template based on the SMC Online template).
5. Press Select Path then press Save.
